Lactose Fermentation Tubes are a specialized culture medium designed for coliform identification experiments. They achieve efficient identification through a dual mechanism: color development via fermentation acid production (coliforms ferment lactose to produce acid, causing the indicator to change from purple to yellow) and observation of gas production (bubbles within the Duhring tube).
