Gentamicin Agar is a specialized medium designed for the selective isolation and cultivation of Vibrio cholerae. Through the dual effects of a high pH environment (8.3–8.7) and antibiotic selective inhibition mechanisms, it significantly promotes the dominant growth of Vibrio cholerae while effectively suppressing common contaminants such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella.
