TCBS (Thio-Citrate-Beta-D-Glucose) Agar is a specialized medium designed for the selective isolation and identification of pathogenic vibrios. It achieves precise differentiation through a dual mechanism combining color development from sucrose fermentation and selective inhibition: whereas Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio vulnificus, and others do not ferment sucrose but utilize citrate to produce alkaline, resulting in blue-green or green colonies with clearly distinguishable typical colony morphology.
