Application Scenarios

Total bacterial count detection in food: Determine the total number of aerobic/facultative anaerobic bacteria in various types of food to evaluate the degree of food hygiene contamination.

Microbial count of water quality: detecting total aerobic bacteria in drinking water, purified water, dialysis water, etc., to determine the level of microbial contamination in water quality.

Medical device environmental monitoring: Determine the total viable bacteria on the surfaces of operating rooms, ICU countertops, disposable consumables, etc., for baseline monitoring of nosocomial infections.

Microbial examination of drugs and cosmetics: Determine the total number of aerobic bacteria in oral medications, ointments, skincare products, etc., in compliance with pharmacopoeia and safety regulations.

Disinfection effect verification: Count the remaining viable bacteria after disinfection test, calculate the sterilization rate and disinfection effectiveness.

Laboratory strain quality control: standard strain coating counting, preparation of bacterial suspension, used for testing and quality control of culture medium performance.

Raw material packaging hygiene screening: detect the total amount of microorganisms on food raw materials, pharmaceutical excipients, and packaging surfaces to control pollution at the source of production.

Introduction to the Relevant Microbiological Characteristics

Staphylococcus aureus

Facultative anaerobic, Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus; Salt tolerant, heat-resistant, producing plasma coagulase, and conditionally pathogenic bacteria; Low nutritional requirements, PCA can grow well; PCA colonies are of medium size, circular protrusions, smooth and moist, milky white/light yellow, opaque, and have neat edges.

Staphylococcus epidermidis

Gram positive, grape clusters arranged, normal human skin microbiota, weakly pathogenic, coagulase negative; PCA colonies are white, small, smooth, and semi transparent, with a whiter color than Staphylococcus aureus.

Bacillus cereus

Endophytic spores, aerobic, Gram positive macrobacteria; Food contamination pathogenic bacteria, spores resistant to high temperatures; PCA colonies are large colonies, gray white, ground glass like, rough, with edges in a diffuse curly shape.

Bacillus subtilis

Bacillus saprophyticus, non pathogenic, common laboratory miscellaneous bacteria and environmental indicator bacteria; PCA colonies are milky white, dry and wrinkled, spreading and growing, with a large colony area.

Escherichia coli

Gram negative bacteria, facultative anaerobic, non spore forming; PCA colonies are medium-sized, milky white, smooth and moist, with circular protrusions, and no special pigments.
