Product Overview

Cronobacter spp. Chromogenic Medium is a specialized chromogenic culture medium designed for the rapid isolation and specific identification of Cronobacter spp. in infant formula and complementary foods. It employs a dual mechanism of enzymatic chromogenic action (Cronobacter secretes β-glucosidase to hydrolyze X-Gluc substrate, releasing a blue chromophore) combined with a selective inhibition mechanism. This dual action causes target bacteria to form characteristic blue-green colonies, while other contaminants appear colorless, milky white, or yellow, enabling highly specific identification.

Clinical application scenarios

National standard qualitative separation screening: After adding bacteria to formula milk powder and other products, line separation is performed to quickly screen for high-risk pathogenic bacteria.

Raw material semi-finished product counting: Apply quantitative counting of suspicious bacterial colonies in fresh milk and milk powder base materials to assess initial contamination levels.

Production environment monitoring: check the environment of spray drying tower, pipeline, operating platform and other workshops for Cronobacter contamination.

Purification of positive samples: Transfer the bacterial turbidity tube to a colorimetric plate to obtain blue-green single colonies for identification and confirmation.

Disinfection process validation: After neutralization, the sample is coated with bacteria to evaluate the killing efficiency of high-temperature cleaning and chemical disinfection.

Suspected infection screening: Separate the child's feces and contaminated milk powder to assist in the diagnosis of neonatal meningitis, sepsis, etc.

Laboratory quality control: Verify the antibacterial and colorimetric specificity of bile salts using standard bacterial strains, and set up a positive and negative control.

Import and export quarantine: Customs sampling and testing of infant and toddler food, distinguishing between Cronobacter and miscellaneous bacteria, and shortening the clearance period.

Introduction to the Relevant Microbiological Characteristics

Cronobacter genus

Biological characteristics: Gram negative, flagella, facultative anaerobic bacteria; Resistant to dryness, high temperature, and osmotic pressure, able to survive in a milk powder environment for a long time; Alpha glucosidase positive, capable of decomposing chromogenic substrates; Fermented glucose and lactose; No hydrogen sulfide, urea negative;

Colony characteristics: typical blue-green/blue-green, round smooth protrusions, intact edges, medium size; The colony has no black sediment ring, a transparent and clean background color, and extremely high recognition.

Pathogenicity: High risk infant pathogenic bacteria can cause neonatal meningitis, sepsis, and necrotizing enterocolitis.
