Potato Glucose Agar
Product Usage:Suitable for fungal isolation, culture, and enumeration.
Product Overview

【 Principle of Inspection 】

Potato glucose agar medium, as a universal culture medium, can be supplemented with acid or antibiotics to inhibit bacterial growth. Potato flour, as a nutrient rich foundation, has a good promoting effect on the growth of fungi and molds; Glucose is a carbon source; Agar is a solidifying agent.

Main components

Composed of potato flour, glucose, and agar.

Clinical application scenarios

Fungal pure culture and morphological identification: clinical isolation of fungi and yeast purification culture, observation of colony morphology and microstructure.

Fungal strain preservation: Subculture preservation of standard strains such as Candida albicans, dermatophyton, and Aspergillus.

Drug and food hygiene inspection: Count the total number of molds in raw materials and finished products, and screen for contaminated molds.

Scientific research experiment cultivation: fungal drug sensitivity, toxin production test, strain mutagenesis cultivation.

Introduction to the Relevant Microbiological Characteristics

Aspergillus genus (Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger)

Bacterial body: with septate branching hyphae, apical sac+radial conidiophores;

Colony: Aspergillus flavus yellow green fuzzy colony, Aspergillus niger black brown fuzzy colony;

Characteristics: saprophytic, Aspergillus flavus produces aflatoxin, and immunocompromised individuals can induce pulmonary aspergillosis.

Penicillium

Bacterial body: Separate hyphae, with typical broom shaped branching of conidiophores;

Colony: blue-green fuzzy colony;

Characteristics: Most saprophytes are penicillin producing bacteria, and a few can cause eye and skin infections.

Mucor

Bacterial body: coarse septiceless hyphae, sporangia;

Colony: white cotton like, spreading and growing rapidly;

Characteristic: Immune deficient individuals are prone to invasive mucormycosis.

Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans

Bacterial colony: milky white smooth cheese like colony;

Features: budding reproduction, Candida can form pseudohyphae; May cause surface and deep fungal infections.
