Product Usage:For the selective isolation and identification of Gram-positive cocci in clinical and food hygiene testing.
Product Overview

Trypsin hydrolysate, animal tissue protein digest, yeast extract, beef extract, starch provide carbon and ammonia sources, vitamins, and growth factors; Sheep blood is a good nutrient for bacterial growth and reproduction. Adding blood to a basic culture medium at 45 ° C~50 ° C can preserve certain heat-resistant growth factors in the blood, while preventing the destruction of blood cells; Agar is a coagulant; Polymyxin B and naphthonic acid can inhibit the growth of miscellaneous bacteria.

Main components

Composed of pancreatic casein peptone, animal tissue protein digest, yeast extract, beef extract, corn starch, agar, dipotassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, polymyxin B, naphthonic acid, and distilled water.

Storage conditions and expiration date

Storage conditions: This product should be stored in a dark environment at 2-8 ℃.

Validity period: The unopened original packaging has a validity period of 3 months.

This product is a disposable product.

Clinical application scenarios

β - hemolytic streptococcus isolation: sputum, throat swab and other specimen cultures are used to screen for group A streptococcus through transparent β - hemolytic rings, assisting in the diagnosis of pharyngitis and cellulitis.

Staphylococcus isolation and hemolysis observation: Distinguish between Staphylococcus aureus (β - hemolytic) and coagulase negative Staphylococcus, used for detecting skin, soft tissue, and bloodstream infections.

Aseptic fluid culture: Inoculation of blood, cerebrospinal fluid and other specimens, balancing nutrient supply and inhibition of miscellaneous bacteria, to improve the positive detection rate.

Preliminary typing of Streptococcus/Enterococcus: Combining hemolysis characteristics and colony morphology, preliminary typing provides pure colonies for subsequent identification.

Obtaining pure bacterial colonies for drug sensitivity testing: isolating and purifying target Gram positive bacteria, conducting antibiotic sensitivity testing, and guiding clinical anti infective medication.

Introduction to the Relevant Microbiological Characteristics

β - hemolytic streptococcus

Biological characteristics: Gram positive cocci arranged in long and short chains; No spores, no flagella, no motility, touch enzyme negative; Generate hemolytic toxin, which can completely dissolve red blood cells; It is a purulent pathogenic bacterium that causes pharyngitis, wound infection, sepsis, and neonatal infection.

Cultivation characteristics (35 ℃, 5% CO ₂, 18-24h): The colonies are small, gray white, and raised; A broad, transparent, colorless beta hemolytic ring forms around the colony; Growth is not inhibited by inhibitors, and Gram negative bacteria do not grow.

Staphylococcus aureus

Biological characteristics: Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus, touch enzyme positive; Some strains produce plasma coagulase and beta hemolytic toxin; May cause skin abscess, pneumonia, bloodstream infection, and food poisoning.

Cultivation characteristics: Medium sized colonies, golden/milky white, smooth and raised; Clear beta hemolytic rings can be seen around most strains; It grows vigorously on CNA plates.

Coagulase negative Staphylococcus aureus

Biological characteristics: Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus, touch enzyme positive, coagulase negative; Most of them are opportunistic pathogens that can easily cause infections related to catheters and implants.

Cultivation characteristics: The colonies are white, small, mostly without hemolytic rings, and a few with weak hemolysis.

Enterococcus (Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecalis)

Biological characteristics: Gram positive Streptococcus brevis, touch enzyme negative; Salt tolerant, bile tolerant, opportunistic pathogens often cause infections in the urinary system, abdominal cavity, and bloodstream.

Cultivation characteristics: The colonies are gray white, small, often without hemolytic rings, and grow slowly.
