Product Usage:For rapid isolation and preliminary identification of pathogenic Candida species in clinical and laboratory settings.
Product Overview

【 Principle 】

Peptone provides a nitrogen and carbon source; Hydrogen poppy extract inhibits the growth of miscellaneous bacteria; The pigment reacts specifically with the enzyme corresponding to Candida, hydrolyzing the substrate to release chromogenic groups, and Candida albicans presents green blue-green colonies; Agar is a coagulant for culture media.

Main components

Composed of peptone, hydrogen poppy extract, pigment, agar, and distilled water.

Storage conditions and expiration date

Storage conditions: This product should be stored in a dark environment at 2-8 ℃.

Validity period: The unopened original packaging has a validity period of 3 months.

This product is a disposable product.

Clinical application scenarios

Clinical genital secretion detection: rapid identification of Candida albicans in vaginal discharge specimens, differentiation of pathogenic Candida, and diagnosis of vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Clinical fluid and wound screening: Candida was isolated from sputum, urine, and wound pus to differentiate between fungal colonization and invasive infections in the hospital.

Microbial limit testing of drugs: selective isolation of Candida from oral and topical preparations to determine fungal contamination.

Cosmetics hygiene inspection: detection of fungal contamination in skincare and washing products, screening for pathogenic Candida, ensuring safe use.

Rapid typing and initial screening of bacterial strains: Based on differences in colony color, common bacterial strains such as Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, and Candida krusei can be preliminarily distinguished without biochemical testing.

Introduction to the Relevant Microbiological Characteristics

Candida albicans

Biological characteristics: Single celled yeast like fungi, oval shaped spores, capable of forming pseudohyphae and thick film spores; Conditional pathogenic bacteria that colonize the oral cavity, vagina, and digestive tract can cause mucosal and deep infections when the immune system is weakened; Can specifically hydrolyze the chromogenic substrate in the culture medium, tolerate antibiotics in the culture medium, and prevent bacteria from competing for growth.

Cultivation characteristics: Cultivate at 36 ℃ for 24-48 hours, and the colonies will be round, smooth, and raised, presenting a characteristic emerald green color with a full morphology.

Tropical Candida

Biological characteristics: Spores are predominant, with fewer pseudohyphae and strong invasiveness, which can easily cause catheter-related bloodstream infections and urinary system infections; The enzyme spectrum is different from Candida albicans in that it can decompose corresponding chromogenic substrates, and the risk of drug resistance is higher than that of Candida albicans.

Cultivation characteristics: The colonies are blue gray to dark blue in color, medium in size, and have a moist and glossy surface.

Candida krusei

Biological characteristics: Slightly slender cells, sparse pseudohyphae, naturally resistant to fluconazole, commonly seen in high-risk patients undergoing chemotherapy and long-term hormone use; The metabolic enzyme system is unique, and the color reaction recognition is high.

Cultivation characteristics: The colonies are dry and rough, ranging from pink to light red in color, with small colonies and slightly irregular edges.

Candida glabrata

Biological characteristics: The bacterial cells are small and rarely form pseudohyphae. They often colonize without symptoms. Severe immunodeficiency patients can cause systemic spread infections and slow growth rates.

Cultivation characteristics: Small milky white or light purple colonies, with a significantly smaller diameter than other Candida species, and a delicate texture.
