Salmonella Chromogenic Medium is a specialized chromogenic culture medium designed for the rapid isolation and specific identification of Salmonella. It employs an enzymatic chromogenic mechanism (Salmonella secretes specific enzymes that hydrolyze substrates, releasing chromophores to form magenta or bright red colonies) and a selective inhibition mechanism (effectively suppressing contaminants like coliform bacteria and Proteus species). This dual action achieves highly specific identification.
Rapid screening of clinical diarrhea specimens: direct marking of feces/anal swabs, relying on chromogenic substrates to quickly distinguish Salmonella from miscellaneous bacteria, shortening the time for pathogen diagnosis.
Food national standard testing: After adding bacteria, apply or streak to isolate and count suspected Salmonella in fresh meat, eggs, aquatic products and other foods.
Food environment monitoring: screening operation tables, cutting tools, and cold chain equipment application samples, quickly identifying pollution sources, and predicting outbreak risks.
Hospital infection prevention and control: Collect environment and equipment such as intestinal clinics and waste areas, quickly detect residual Salmonella, and block cross transmission.
Water detection: Qualitative detection of Salmonella contamination level in domestic sewage and processing wastewater.
Purification of positive samples: Transfer the bacterial turbidity tube to a color plate for efficient acquisition of single bacterial colonies for subsequent serum typing.
Culture substrate control: Verify the specificity and antibacterial performance of chromogenic substrates using standard strains (positive/negative controls).
Disinfection effect verification: After disinfection, the sample is inoculated with a color plate to quickly detect residual live bacteria and evaluate the killing effect.
Salmonella (Salmonella typhimurium, Enteritis, Salmonella paratyphoid type B)
Common biological characteristics: Gram negative facultative anaerobic bacteria, with flagella, no spores, and no capsules; Not fermenting lactose, urease and indole negative; Carrying unique esterases/aminopeptidases that can decompose chromogenic substrates; Resistant to tablet antibacterial agents, widely present in feces and food, causing food poisoning and typhoid fever.
Colony characteristics: purple/purple red/blue purple, round, smooth, raised, with regular edges, medium size, unchanged color of the culture substrate, and no black sediment ring.
Salmonella typhimurium: Large dark purple colonies with vigorous growth;
Salmonella enteritidis: smooth purple red colonies;
Salmonella paratyphoid type B: light purple medium colony, slightly slower growth.
