Product Overview

【 Principle 】

Pancreatic casein peptone, animal tissue pepsin hydrolysate, and beef extract provide carbon sources, nitrogen sources, vitamins, and minerals; Mannitol is a fermentable sugar; Higher levels of sodium chloride provide higher osmotic pressure and inhibit most non glucose bacteria; Phenolphthalein is a pH indicator; Agar is a coagulant for culture media.

Main components

Composed of pancreatic casein peptone, animal tissue pepsin hydrolysate, beef extract, mannitol, sodium chloride, phenol red, agar, and distilled water.

Clinical application scenarios

Food microbiological testing: isolation and counting of Staphylococcus aureus in meat products, dairy products, pastries, cold drinks, and other foods to screen for pathogenic bacteria causing food poisoning.

Cosmetics safety inspection: screening for pathogenic bacteria in skincare and washing products, detecting pathogenic staphylococci to avoid the risk of skin infections.

Microbial limit test for drugs: Control bacteria in topical preparations and raw materials of traditional Chinese medicine, and isolate Staphylococcus aureus.

Environmental hygiene monitoring: Sampling of food and beverage workstations, food processing workshops, and medical institutions to assess the contamination of highly pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus.

Preliminary screening of clinical specimens: Preliminary isolation of pathogenic Staphylococcus from pus and wound secretions samples to assist in clinical infection identification.

Introduction to the Relevant Microbiological Characteristics

Staphylococcus aureus

Biological characteristics: Gram positive cocci, arranged in grape clusters, facultative anaerobic; Tolerant to 7.5% high concentration sodium chloride, the vast majority of bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, and common miscellaneous bacteria are inhibited due to high osmotic pressure; Fermented mannitol can produce acid, and pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus generally possess this metabolic ability.

Cultivation characteristics (36 ℃± 1 ℃, 18-24h): Colony morphology: round, raised, smooth, opaque colonies; Dissolve mannitol to produce acid, causing the colony and surrounding culture medium to turn yellow; Do not ferment mannitol, the colony is white/pink, and the culture medium does not turn yellow; High salt environment cannot grow, and the background of the tablet is clean.
